Crusader Rex

I'm thinking about ordering Crusader Rex, the newest block wargame from the team that designed Hammer of the Scots. Until the end of July I have a 10% discount at the Columbia Games online store so I have until then. HotS really surprised me, it was my first "real" wargame, but still accessible enough for someone like me. It is so much fun too! Every time I play the game there are memorable moments. Noble stands by Moray in the highlands, Wallace slipping out by ship transport just as I have him trapped, or the time he made it into lower England and ravaged the countryside! If CR is half as fun as HotS I will be pleased.

Ender's Game

I'm trying to read a lot of scifi classics lately. I'm going for a breadth, not depth approach (so I'll read the classic book, but not the endless parade of sequels, instead it's on to the next series/author). Latest completion is Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game which I picked up at Newark Airport a few weeks ago. I'd hear of the book several times, and it got mentioned on a GeekSpeak that I listened to on the flight out so I went and picked it up. Cool story, it's somewhat divided in two parts, Battle School and Fleet School or whatever it's called. I definitely like military science fiction, even if all I've really read in that subgenre is this and Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. Nice little twist in this book too.

Currently I'm in the middle of reading Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous With Rama, about 1/3 of the way through so far. Talking about the orientation of Rama actually reminds me of the way Ender thinks about the game zone orientation. Not sure what is next on the hitlist, any suggestions (for the 2 of you that EVER check this?)?

Haverchuk was right

Summertime means reruns but I've gone way back. Dallas has become my addiction. I watched an episode on TV Land, the one where JR gets shot. I was hooked! Everyone is so eeeeevil on this show. In one episode, JR will cheat on his wife, punch a nun, and crap on a wedding cake. And he'll call the nun "darlin'". Now I know this is over 20 years old but please, no spoilers, I don't know who shot JR and I won't until season 3 hits DVD in August.

Hello World

So my first blog. Well that's not true. The Tibs Zone was like a blog in some ways. Those Nothing pages were basically a neanderthal blog, just pointless ramblings about whatever interested me that day. Just think, if I'd gotten Domokun before Fark...oh well. And who remembers the summers of .plan and .project updates? TOYO I MISS YOU!

Anyway I made this account so I could post easier to The Life And Times Of Shawn but what the hey, I'll add stuff here too. It's been too long since I had something on the web other than work.
